The solar water heater warms the water for every cabin. When you take a short shower, the system runs without touching the power grid. When the shower is long, electricity kicks in. It's that direct.
We have a recycling drop-off point — guests sort their recyclables, we collect them (full guide below).
Our vegetable garden is a permaculture garden: we grow organic produce that goes straight to breakfast, and compost handles the rest. Our goal is to become self-sufficient — growing more and more of what we eat, harvested ourselves.

Ave Lodge's sustainability is cultural too, not just environmental — you can see it in how the lodge is built and decorated.
The lodge's design draws on the vernacular architecture of the Llanquihue Lake basin, with materials and construction chosen to be energy-efficient.
The wood is 100% local: pino oregón (Douglas fir) for doors and railings, pino insigne (radiata pine), cypress and eucalyptus for the cladding — a southern Chilean touch kept simple and clean.
The furniture includes pieces hand-carved in mañío wood, and the wicker lamps are made by local artisans. The bird watercolors that decorate the lodge were painted by Ángela, our co-founder.
For 9 years we've been adding native flora for conservation and bee pollination, and the self-guided trails carry their own signage about the birds, trees and peaks visible from the lookout point — also built in pino oregón.
